A New Dawn

This radically innovative, comedy noir novel follows the life of a self-conscious, Jewish boy named, Joe Rosen from his teens to twenties.

Growing up, life is hard enough for Joe, as his teen years bring about evolving gayness from within. He knows all too well being gay in a Jewish household is a four-letter word. Now add to this the fact that Joe has to abruptly take over the family business in his early twenties including, but is not limited to, one scrap metal recycling plant worth millions, one bank, other business enterprises, and five mafia families after the assassination of his devoted father, Bernie Rosen and you have The Sopranos© meet The Bird Cage©.”

One big issue within any Mafia family worth its salt is that you have to be a member to take over as Don. Hence, the rub—Joe is not a “Made Man.” Therefore, to save his empire, Joe finds himself fighting not one, but two factions.

First, he has his mother, Betsey Rosen. Her peers know her as being cold-blooded; lusting for money and out to get anything she can from her son—mainly his self-respect.

Second, some of the five families lead by his father’s best friend and right-hand man, Abe Goldstein try to gain control of everything as Joe knowingly steps into his father’s role as, “The Don,” or in Italian circles the “Godfather.”

Joe embarks on this dangerous and lofty challenge, supported not only by his childhood friend turned lover, Brad Rosatti, but also his Aunt Ida, who loves Joe as a son and has always treated him with the respect and love he never knew from his mother.

The head of another family, house angel/street devil, Don Anthony Pratto, who for personal reasons between he and Ida, aids with the Rosen’s vendetta to save the Rosen Empire. Throughout, Tony’s stomach is churning with his quandary over hatred of Family Dons after the revelation of the takeover—and having to reevaluate his sixty-plus years of loathing gays as he sees the loving and deeply loyal commitment set by Joe and Brad for one another.

A New Dawn brings an imaginative look into the now hot late night topic of gays in the Mafia. Packed with assassination attempts, extortion, intrigue and laughs, the Agatha Christie ending will literally haunt your dreams.
